Music Venues in Newcastle
The Newcastle music scene is thriving right now. There are so many venues to check out bands and who ever wants to come with me definitely should! Some venues that I know feature local music are The Queens Wharf Brewery, The Loft, The Blackbox Theatre, The Lucky Country, The Lass O’Gowrie, The Cambridge Hotel, The Bar on the Hill at the University, The Civic Theatre, The Newcastle Panthers and The Newcastle Entertainment centre. Maybe we can discover the new “silverchair”–(from Newcastle originally). Also, I found out that there is a Newcastle Music Week here every year. “NMW 2006 increased the community’s awareness of the local live music industry and allowed the community to experience the vibe of a music festival” (wikipedia). For more information check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle_music_week. I believe that this years (NMW 2008 festival is in November so we won’t be able to attend this in the near future but it’s definitely something to keep in mind when it gets closer to November if you are still in the area. More on this later but we should definitely look up local bands to watch soon! If you’re down let me know.
ALso, I left this out–We need to discover exactly why this music scene is under represented. Sure there is little publish journalistic reviews of the scene but we should focus on one aspect because the Newcastle music scene is so dynamic. (see my new post in Music Scenes page I added today). Should we focus on live performances or just narrow it down to a few artists and focus on them?
